Don’t Wait to Start that Bucket List

the-bucket-list
There are a million and one movies and TV shows about traveling and they’re either about discovering yourself, building a bond between friends, family disasters or they end in horror. First one that came to mind was Away We Go, but that was more about traveling to find a sense of home. Then there was The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and that’s just about some weird ass piece of clothing that seems to magically fit four different body types. There wasn’t one that came to mind where travel was a hobby of sorts . So I had to go back to the idea that one should not wait until they’re too old to see the world and came across The Bucket List.

The Voodoo of Planes: Facing an Irrational Fear

My family has never once taken a vacation. The typical ones you see on TV with snacks packed, luggage taking up the trunk, souvenirs bought only to be forgotten as soon as you got back – nope. That was never something we did. We went to Disneyland once that I can remember, a hotel in Palm Springs one weekend and took 4-5 drives to my mom’s family in Arizona when I was younger, but other than that my life was void of the travel I hear about from friends. Maybe that’s why I lacked the initial interest to ever see past my television screen. Why head to Africa when the Discovery Channel can tell me all about it?

There were but a few people in a group of a dozen or so adults hired to watch high school students take their AP tests in the valley of LA this past spring who held a normal day job. The rest of us did this and that to survive. Those who read this know I was one of them, but another was Celeste Tomasulo. The 28-year-old girl with a new destination constantly on her mind as she works a handful of jobs to make her travels happen, I found her interesting. We talked of blogging as I do mine and she does hers on her travels; filling The Traveler’s Route with her tales. Having explored 11 counties so far, she has many.

Making a promise to herself to leave the confines of LA at least once a year, I knew she was the perfect person to question about the idea of travel and she too agreed that you find yourself out there and explained beautifully below how and why that is. She also gives helpful tips on how to save up to go, and more.

Boarding Pass: The Wanderlust Files

One of the craziest things to think about, other than the fact that there are people seriously supporting Donald Trump for president, is how big the world is. It’s even crazier to think that most of us will never even see 2% of it in our lifetimes. If I would have realized this when I was younger, I would have been way more serious about my life as a paleontologist. Instead I am a blogger and the only traveling I do is through BuzzFeed lists, Netflix documentaries, and once in awhile trips that just recently started. Which is sad because I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to get to be 60 and finally have the time and money to see the world. Because by then my legs are going to be shot and I won’t look as good in my pictures. Hey, I don’t want to be all AARP looking when I finally get to taste the food of Italy…in Italy.
