There are dating sites out there for every type of person known to man. Want to date a farmer? They got you covered. Are you a clown looking to get down with another balloon animal making person? Hello, Clown Dating exists. While those are great, there are actually some more interesting and unique options out there for those into everything from cats to fitness to hooking up their parents with someone and more.
Lacking a need for social interaction was inherited from my mother but as I got older, I started to sit back and see people older than me without anyone by their side and the thought of being 45, still hanging out with people half my age and having no one to come home to – that was a fear that started to arise. So after going to a singles panel at Comikaze, I dipped my little toe into the dating pool of the online kind.
Every week someone else comes in to give their side of the topic, but this week the interview fell through. I didn’t want to just post a “Be Back Soon” post and see you Wednesday when I gave you a personal note per usual, so I decided to sit and jot down some thoughts on what I’d hoped to learn from the interview at hand since like with many aspects in life, dating is not the same for everyone.
Our grandmas married the boy next door. Our moms dated a guy she met at work or in school. Us? Some go old school and stick close to home, others still marry their college sweethearts or their Jim Halperts, but more and more of us are turning to the world wide web of first dates, hook ups and love that is online dating. We could’ve just stuck with good ol’ fashioned dating but as someone who lives on her laptop and stays on top of the news, I know online dating and the use of apps is where we’re at as a culture so that’s the focus this week as we kick off a month that’ll cover this, crushing as an adult, being in a relationship, the dreaded break up and even worse the curse of being dubbed “forever alone,” or blessed – depending on how you look at it.
