Bye Felicia: Top 10 Signs Your Friend May Just Be Your Frenemy

http://weheartit.com/entry/60382875
We’ve discovered this week that almost 100% of us have had and will continue to have a frenemy in our lives, but hey – some people are completely clueless and think their bestie is just the greatest and not really kind of the worst. Luckily, there are some signs to tell if your friend may’ve crossed that line into frenemy territory.

Little Women: Big Frenemies

Mean Girls
has always been on my mind when it came to this week’s topic. That’s because Regina George is the textbook case of what it means to be a frenemy. She’s quick to smile to your face, only to turn around and talk shit behind your back – or give you a backhanded compliment right to your face. Not sure which is worse, but she was capable of both. Then the best reality show in the world came around, Little Women: LA (and basically any and every other Little show that came after it). Suck it Bachelor and Bachelorette – this is where it’s at. Anyways, the amount of imitation companionship in these shows could not be ignored.

The Bloody Nosed Bandit

Nadine. I was a gullible first grader and she was a conniving second grader who scared me to death with her now-obvious lies about the principal being her uncle. She used that one to put the fear of God in me for a whole school year, so you don’t even know how happy I got deep down inside whenever her nose bled – which was a little too often. Nadine was my first official frenemy. One part fear, one part the stupidity of a first grade mind – I didn’t know any better and allowed myself to stay friends with this Problem Child for way longer than I should have, because one school year is an eternity. It was safe to say I was overjoyed when I reached second grade after the summer months and returned to see that Nadine had exited out elementary school. I wish her well today because I’m not as mean spirited as she once was (or still is?), but I do hope she thinks of me sometimes and feels bad for bullying me all those years ago.

The definition of a word like frenemy can change from person to person and for Stephanie, she believes it’s “someone who you’re nice to even though you have an inherent dislike for them,” and I’d agree with her on that. With that, she was willing to talk openly about the ones she’s encountered in her lifetime, especially the one from high school she still deals with all these years later…

Bye Felicia: The Counterfeit Smiles of Frenemies

Just like friends are a normal constant in our lives, as are frenemies. Even before that concept of a relationship was given a name – it was there. It’s always been there, and we’ve all had one. Think as far back to elementary school. Was there a guy or gal who was super nice to you to your face, but a total butthead (elementary school’s biggest burn)? That my dear, was likely your first frenemy in life. Sadly though, they don’t go away as you grow up. We encounter them until the day we die. Why? Because that’s how we roll as human beings. Even when we don’t like someone, we somehow think they need to be in our lives for some reason. We’ll get back to that in a second.
